Andre Norton Award Final Ballot
It's now official! INTO THE WILD is on the final ballot for the 2007 Andre Norton Award for Young Adult Science Fiction and Fantasy. (Yay!) SFWA members vote in March and the winners will be announced on April 26th at the Nebula Awards Banquet in Austin, TX. (I just bought my plane ticket to Austin! Hee hee!) Congrats to all the Norton finalists, as well as all the finalists in the other Nebula Award categories.

Question: Why are the scripts nominated in the movie category so NOT from 2007? How's that work?
Rick: Hi! And thanks! Eligibility for all the Nebula awards follows the following (complicated) formula. (Beware, there will be some math.) A work is eligible to receive recommendations (recs) from SFWA members anytime during the twelve month period starting from its release date. Whenever a work receives its 10th rec, it qualifies for the preliminary ballot for the current year. So, if a book/story/film comes out, for example, in February 2006, and receives its 10th rec in January 2007, it appears on the 2007 ballot. This is done to be fair to works that come out toward the end of the year, which otherwise would not have much time to accumulate recs. But it does have the effect of extending the total eligibility period to two years.
