Northboro (Part 3 of 7)

Today's Northboro photo features the gas station that Julie sees on TV in chapter 5 and in person in chapter 6 of INTO THE WILD...

Gas Station (pre-Wild)

"Premium unleaded was now next to an oak tree instead of a window squeegee dispenser. Vines were twisted around the pump nozzles. Moss covered the credit card displays. Julie leaned closer to the TV. Was that moss spreading? The TV focused on the pavement. Green (oddly vibrant for October) advanced across the blacktop like an army of worms. Tendrils snaked forward, and the asphalt cracked. Thicker vines shot into the cracks, widening the splits. The street crumbled."

Hello! I am a former "Northboro-ite" I grew up on Rice Ave. I live in Georgia now (and am a school media specialist and fellow blogger) but my family still lives in town. I can't wait to read the book, my sister told me there are references in the book about Dairy Hut - I worked there in the late 80's!!

Sarah's book is a wonderfully inventive read for any lover of fairy tales and fantasy, but especially fun for us Northbo(ugh) people.

I am a Northboro librarian (Peaslee School, did you go there, Kathy?) and a Northboro resident. More than Dairy Hut, you'll find references to lots of other Northboro locales. Watch Sarah's blog posts for more of them. Take a trip down memory lane....

Kathy: So cool! I was at the Dairy Hut constantly in the 80s. I bet at some point you handed me a black raspberry ice cream cone. Thanks for coming by my blog!

Erin: Thanks!!

Nancy: Thanks, Nancy! I'm having so much fun talking with all the students here in Northboro who know all the places in the book.

Nancy, no, I went to Zeh, but my brother and sister went to Peaslee after Zeh closed, I guess they would have been students there in the early-mid 80's.
